April 2000

Troop 57 does an Arrow of Light ceremony for a local Cub Scout Pack.

The Troop arrived Friday night and set up camp. Bright and early Saturday morning the boys began setting up and rehearsing for the ceremony. As always Troop 57 did everything it could to make this a memorable event for the new Scouts. An Indian ceremony, bonfires, drums, and a giant AOL symbol that lights up. All the ingredients that have come to make our AOL ceremonies something special for Webelos crossing over into Boy Scouts.

One of the things that makes our AOL ceremony so special is the "Pyrotechnics" we do. The fireball that decends from the sky on cue to light the bonfire, the AOL symbols with their seven rays that light up on cue during the ceremony, the Troop cannon that fires for the special effect of thunder and all the rest. All of these are made possible because of the hard work of our own Mr. Millhouse. In recognition of his efforts the Troop presented him with his own special T-Shirt. The shirt has images of exloding fireworks across the front and a caption. The caption reads:

Chief Pyrotechnician ... If you see me running ... try to keep up!!!

AOL symbol after all the rays have been triggered! Akelas party begins calling Webelos forward to receive their arrows! Akelas party! One of the "Indian" trail guides! The "head dress" he's wearing is an old coyote pelt. This earned him the nickname "Dances With Roadkill" for the campout!
